PFU America, Inc. Announces FADGI-Compliant Document Imaging Scanner Product Bundles

Industry Leading RICOH fi Series Scanners Meet FADGI Requirements for Integrity and Quality of the Overall Scanning and Capture Process

PFU America, Inc.

Sunnyvale, CA , August 17, 2023

PFU America, Inc., the U.S.-based subsidiary of PFU Limited and the leader in document scanning solutions, today announced the availability of four FADGI-compliant document imaging scanner bundles. Each bundle includes one scanner from the RICOH fi series, one year of ScanCare™ service, calibration software and test target, installation, training, and PaperStream Capture™ software.

The bundles are designed to meet the guidelines set forth in the Federal Agencies Digital Guidelines Initiative (“FADGI”), a collaborative effort between U.S. federal agencies and independent agencies designed to create a set of standards and guidelines for digitizing cultural heritage materials. FADGI standards apply to still image materials, including textual content, maps, and photographic prints, as well as AV collections.

Each of the RICOH scanners -- fi-7600, fi-7700, fi-7800, and fi-7900 -- enable federal agencies to also meet FADGI 3-star requirements which will be mandated for all government records submitted to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) once the rule goes into effect in June 2024.

“We know that meeting FADGI requirements can be challenging for federal agencies, which is why we created comprehensive bundle packages that combine high-quality document imaging scanners, software, service, and support to make it easier to not only meet the guidelines, but to stay in compliance,” said Daisuke Kutsuwada, President and CEO, PFU America, Inc. “Our industry-leading RICOH scanners provide our government customers with the image quality and integrity required by FADGI, and will remain in compliance once FADGI 3-star rules are established.”

Government agencies are going paperless in 2024 — here’s how to ensure those digital files meet quality standards

In an era where paperwork is giving way to computer files, government agencies must be careful to maintain image quality. That is why agencies and experts collaborated to create the Federal Agencies Digital Guidelines Initiative (FADGI). FADGI helps ensure that important digital files are consistent across agencies.

There are different FADGI standards for still images and audio/visual recordings, but they share the same goal. They both aim to develop and maintain guidelines for long-term preservation. Government agencies and archivists who deal with still images will likely want to invest in a FADGI-compliant scanner.
